Privacy policy
Last updated October 2026. Written to actually be read.
The short version: if you don't give us your email address, we don't have anything of yours. If you do, we use it to send you the daily reading and nothing else. We don't run ads, we don't sell data, and we don't use analytics that track you individually.
What we collect
An email address, only if you subscribe to the daily reading. There is no account to create, no profile, no name required.
If you use “Is this listing right?” on a church’s page, we receive your answer, any note you type, and whether you say you are part of that church. No name, email address or IP address is attached. The report is saved as a private work item in the tracker where this site is built (GitHub), so we can check it against the church’s own website. Please don’t include personal details in the note.
When you subscribe, your email address is sent to Buttondown, the email service we use to send the daily reading. We don't store it ourselves beyond that. Buttondown has its own privacy practices, described in their privacy policy.
What we don't collect
No cookies that track you across visits or across other sites. No analytics that build a profile of what you read or how long you stay. No advertising, which means no advertising trackers. No accounts, no passwords, no names, no addresses, unless you choose to include them in an email to us.
Videos
On The Gospels, acted out, each scene is a video from The Chosen’s own YouTube channel. Nothing from YouTube loads until you tap play. When you do, the video comes from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com), and YouTube’s privacy policy applies to that video, the same as watching it on YouTube.
What stays on your device
Two small preferences, whether you've turned on night mode and whether you've turned on larger type, are saved in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device and we never see them. Clearing your browser data clears them too.
So the prayers work without a signal, your browser keeps its own copy of the prayer pages, this Sunday’s readings and the care pages after your first visit. That copy is on your device only. If you tap “No thanks” when we offer to put the site on your home screen, your browser remembers that too, so we never ask again. Clearing your browser data clears all of it.
On Find a church, your browser reads its own time zone (the same setting that puts the right time on your clock) and uses it to suggest a country. That happens entirely on your device. The time zone is not sent to us, not stored, and not used for anything else. We never ask for your precise location.
Server logs
Like essentially every website, ours runs on hosting infrastructure (currently Vercel) that automatically logs basic technical information for every request (IP address, browser type, timestamp) for security and reliability, the same way a phone company logs that a call happened without recording what was said. We don't access these logs to track individuals, and we don't connect them to any email address you've given us. Vercel's own practices are described in their privacy policy.
If you're a minor
This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us an email address, contact us and we'll remove it.
Your choices
Every email we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom: one click, no login, no reason required. If you want your email address removed from our list entirely, or if you have any question about what we do or don't have, write to us. We read everything and we'll act on it.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect or how we use it ever changes, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. We won't quietly expand what we do with your information and call it the same policy.
