Privacy policy

The short version: if you don't give us your email address, we don't have anything of yours. If you do, we use it to send you the daily reading and nothing else. We don't run ads, we don't sell data, and we don't use analytics that track you individually.

What we collect

An email address, only if you subscribe to the daily reading. That's the entire list. There is no account to create, no profile, no name required.

When you subscribe, your email address is sent to Buttondown, the email service we use to send the daily reading. We don't store it ourselves beyond that. Buttondown has its own privacy practices, described in their privacy policy.

What we don't collect

No cookies that track you across visits or across other sites. No analytics that build a profile of what you read or how long you stay. No advertising, which means no advertising trackers. No accounts, no passwords, no names, no addresses, unless you choose to include them in an email to us.

What stays on your device

Two small preferences — whether you've turned on night mode, and whether you've turned on larger type — are saved in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device and we never see them. Clearing your browser data clears them too.

Server logs

Like essentially every website, ours runs on hosting infrastructure (currently Vercel) that automatically logs basic technical information for every request — IP address, browser type, timestamp — for security and reliability, the same way a phone company logs that a call happened without recording what was said. We don't access these logs to track individuals, and we don't connect them to any email address you've given us. Vercel's own practices are described in their privacy policy.

If you're a minor

This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us an email address, contact us and we'll remove it.

Your choices

Every email we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom — one click, no login, no reason required. If you want your email address removed from our list entirely, or if you have any question about what we do or don't have, write to us. We read everything and we'll act on it.

Changes to this policy

If what we collect or how we use it ever changes, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. We won't quietly expand what we do with your information and call it the same policy.
