Find a pastor

Almost everything here can reach you wherever you are. Communion and baptism are the two exceptions. They need a body in a room, so this page exists to get you from here to there.

Today

Find a church in the ELCA tradition

The ELCA's full-communion partner churches, sorted by country, with a plain label for how each shares communion. You do not need to be a member to call or visit, and you do not need to explain why you're asking.

What we are building

We are building a directory of the pastors who teach here, so you can go from hearing someone preach to actually reaching them. Not ready yet. When it is, this page will list them directly.

Questions people ask

How do I find a Lutheran pastor near me?
Start with the ELCA's own congregation finder or your country's Lutheran church body listed at Find a Church. Most congregations list a phone number or office email; call or write and say plainly what you need, even if it's just “I'd like to talk to a pastor.”
What if there's no Lutheran church near me at all?
Many congregations serve members well beyond their immediate area, and pastors are generally willing to have a phone or video call with someone who can't get there in person, even if they can't administer communion or baptism remotely. Call the nearest one and ask.
Do I have to be a member for a pastor to help me?
No. Pastors routinely help people who aren't members, especially for funerals, emergencies, and someone simply asking to talk.
Is there a cost?
No. Pastoral care isn't billed. A congregation may ask for a donation around a wedding or similar event, but a visit, a call, or being talked to is not something Lutheran pastors charge for.
