Who we are

Why this exists

Most online church is a livestream bolted onto a brochure site. You watch, you close the tab, and there is no mechanism to return. We built something different: daily prayer in the morning, evening, and night offices, the Word preached and taught, and a searchable library of five centuries of Lutheran writing. Open at any hour, free, and it asks nothing of you except a working device.

The people this is built for include the homebound and chronically ill, night-shift workers, caregivers, and travelers. People a hundred miles from the nearest Lutheran congregation. People who left church badly and are not ready to walk back through a door yet. You do not have to explain yourself to be here.

Our pastors

Teaching, preaching, and daily prayer here are led by pastors rostered in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We are building a directory so you can hear from them directly and, in time, reach one to talk to.

What we are honest about

We can put words in front of you at four in the morning when there is nobody to ring. What we cannot do is be in the room, or put bread in your hand. Holy Communion and Baptism are physical gifts by design: water poured over a real head, bread placed in a real hand. We explain why on our sacraments page, and we do not treat it as a technical limitation we are working around.

So we are a church of the Word and of prayer, open every hour, holding the things a building cannot hold.

Our tradition

We stand in the tradition of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and use its worship resources and the Revised Common Lectionary. We are not a congregation of the ELCA and do not speak for it. We confess the three ecumenical creeds and receive the Book of Concord as a faithful witness to the Gospel.

Which Bible we use

Scripture here does two different jobs. The prayers people know by heart appear in their familiar wording and never change; the Sunday readings are referenced and linked so you can read them in whatever translation you trust. The full policy is on which Bible we use.

Accessibility

Many of the people we serve are homebound, disabled, chronically ill, or aging. Accessibility is not a compliance checkbox here. It is the core use case. We are working toward WCAG 2.1 AA throughout, captions on every audio piece, and a genuine large-type mode that actually helps rather than just nudging the font two pixels. If something is not working for you, get in touch and we will fix it.

Books we cannot host

Much of the best Luther scholarship is in copyright and will be for decades. We catalogue those works anyway, with their citations and with honest routes to buy or borrow them — publisher first, then libraries. We earn nothing from any of those links, and never will. Where buying is not realistic we point to a library, because for many of the people this site is built for that is the only route there is.

Privacy

Your email address, if you give it to us for the daily reading, is used for the daily reading and nothing else. We do not run advertising. We do not sell data. We do not track you beyond what the server needs to send you a page. The full details are on our privacy policy.
