Letters of Spiritual Counsel

Luther writing to individual people in trouble: the dying, the bereaved, the depressed, the anxious, the sick. If you want the pastor rather than the polemicist, this selection is the shortest way in, and it reads nothing like the treatises.

How to get it

We cannot host this one. That is not a reason to pretend it does not exist. Below is every honest route we know of, publisher first, because they are the ones who paid the translators. None of these links earn us anything. If buying is not realistic, start with the library route. Interlibrary loan reaches further than most people expect, and costs nothing.

• Buy from the publisher Westminster John Knox / Vancouver: Regent

Reprinted several times; editions vary in availability.

• Find it in a library Find it in a library
• Secondhand Secondhand copies

  Widely available used, usually cheaply.
