What Jesus said about…

12 of the questions people bring to faith, answered from the Gospels. Each study is a few minutes: the short answer, two or three scenes with the Bible text, and how Lutherans read them.

Faith

Believing, praying and being afraid.

  1. Doubt How Jesus met people who were not sure. I believe. Help my unbelief! Mark 9:24
  2. Prayer What Jesus taught his friends when they asked how. Lord, teach us to pray Luke 11:1
  3. Fear and worry Storms, tomorrow, and the peace Jesus gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. John 14:27

Life together

Love, family, work, money and the people in charge.

  1. Love and marriage A wedding, a commandment, and love as Jesus gave it. Just as I have loved you, you also love one another. John 13:34
  2. Children and family How Jesus welcomed children, and a father who ran. Allow the little children to come to me! Mark 10:14
  3. Forgiveness and conflict Settling wrongs, and forgiving past counting. I don’t tell you until seven times, but, until seventy times seven. Matthew 18:22
  4. Work and calling Fishermen, a busy sister, and workers paid the same. Come after me, and I will make you into fishers for men. Mark 1:17
  5. Money and possessions A rich man, full barns, and two small coins. a man’s life doesn’t consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses. Luke 12:15
  6. Faith and government A coin, a governor, and a different kind of power. Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. Mark 12:17

Illness, grief and death

What the Gospels say when life is hardest.

  1. Illness and healing Jesus with the sick, and the ones others avoided. I want to. Be made clean. Mark 1:41
  2. Grief Jesus at a friend’s tomb, and a promise to those who mourn. Jesus wept. John 11:35
  3. Death and eternal life What Jesus promised about death, and a thief’s last request. I am the resurrection and the life. John 11:25

New to all of this? Six plain questions: who Jesus is, and why people believe.
