“Jesus Christ Is Risen Today” at HymnaryAbout this hymn
A short Easter hymn with an Alleluia after every line. It announces that Jesus has risen, thanks him for enduring the cross, and praises him for the salvation he won.
It celebrates the resurrection as told in the Gospels, such as Matthew 28 and Luke 24. It is sung on Easter Day and through the Easter season.
It began as a Latin Easter song of the late Middle Ages. An English version was printed in Lyra Davidica in 1708 and was reworked in 1749.
