Awake, My Heart, with Gladness
Gerhardt on Easter morning, and he is impatient to get on with it.
The words are public domain. We print a hymn only after checking it word for word against a dated old printing, and this one hasn’t been checked yet. Hymnary has it now.
“Awake, My Heart, with Gladness” at HymnaryAbout this hymn
The same man who wrote the Passion hymns wrote this, and the difference in temperature is the point of reading them together.
It is personal in a way Easter hymns often are not. Not the church rejoices, not creation rejoices, but wake up, my heart, now, this morning, and see what has happened.
Any Sunday in the fifty days of Easter, and particularly good early in the morning when the instruction to wake up is doing double duty.
