“Christ the Lord Is Risen Today” at HymnaryAbout this hymn
The hymn calls heaven and earth to praise the risen Christ. It says his work of love is finished, that death has lost its power, and that those who follow him will rise with him.
It draws on the Easter Gospel and on 1 Corinthians 15:55, where Paul says death has lost its sting. It is sung on Easter Day and in the Easter season.
Charles Wesley wrote it in 1739.
