“Alleluia! Sing to Jesus” at HymnaryAbout this hymn
The hymn praises Jesus as the one who ascended to heaven and still stays with his people. It calls him priest and advocate, and links his presence with the bread of the Lord's Supper.
It draws on the Ascension in Acts 1 and on Hebrews 7, where Jesus is the high priest who always intercedes for his people. It is sung at Ascension, in the Easter season, and at Holy Communion.
William Chatterton Dix published it in 1866.
