“On Eagle's Wings” at HymnaryAbout this hymn
"On Eagle's Wings" (first line "You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord") is a paraphrase of Psalm 91, which speaks of God guarding those who trust in him.
It also draws on Exodus 19:4 and Isaiah 40:31. In Luke 4 the devil quotes Psalm 91 to Jesus in the wilderness, and Jesus answers by trusting God rather than testing him. It is sung on the First Sunday in Lent and very often at funerals.
Michael Joncas, a Catholic priest, wrote the words and music in 1979.
