“Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty” at HymnaryAbout this hymn
This hymn praises God as holy, mighty and merciful, one God in three Persons. It pictures heaven as the Book of Revelation describes it, with saints and angels bowing before God's throne.
It draws on Isaiah 6 and Revelation 4 and 5. In Revelation the one on the throne is joined by the Lamb who was slain, so the holiness the hymn praises is the holiness of the God who comes to us in Jesus.
It is usually sung on Trinity Sunday, the Sunday after Pentecost. Reginald Heber, an English bishop, wrote it in the 1820s.
