The fuller definition
German monk, priest and professor (1483–1546) whose Ninety-Five Theses in 1517 began the Reformation. He taught that people are made right with God by grace through faith, translated the Bible into German, and wrote the Small Catechism and many hymns. He also wrote cruelly about Jews; the ELCA has rejected those writings.
