Law and Gospel
The distinction between two things Scripture says: the Law, which shows what a right life looks like and shows that no one lives it; and the Gospel, which announces what God has done about that in Christ. Learning to tell them apart is, in Lutheran teaching, most of the skill of reading the Bible well.
